About Roberto F. Ramirez

After graduating from Texas A&M in 1984 with a BS in Civil Engineering, I was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.  I served as an infantry officer for five years before applying to the Funded Law Education Program.  I attended UT Law School 1989-92 and graduated with a J.D.  I was admitted to the Texas Bar in November 1992.

As a judge advocate in the Marine Corps I served as trial counsel, defense counsel, legal assistance officer, and staff judge advocate.  I prosecuted or defended Marines and Sailors in over 300 special and general courts-martial.

After retiring from the Marine Corps in 2004, I served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Laredo, Texas in the Southern District of Texas from 2004 to 2014.  As a federal prosecutor I handled immigration, drug crimes, firearms offenses, kidnapping, and public corruption cases.  I tried over 30 jury trials as well as handled over a thousand sentencing hearings, magistrate misdemeanor cases, detention, identity, and removal hearings.  I presented over 1,000 cases before a grand jury.

From 2014-2019 I served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division, Raleigh, North Carolina for the Eastern District of North Carolina.  I represented the United States in State and Federal Court and handled Federal Tort claims, Bivens claims, Adam Walsh cases, and Federal Tax Liens.  I tried 8 civil trials and handled numerous state court hearings.
